PARISH PROFILE

You will be pleased to know that the advert for our new priest is now live on the Church Times and CPAS websites, with interviews scheduled for mid-October. You can read the Parish Profile by clicking on the image. We can all be pleased with the positive, fruitful and healthy picture it shows – without everyone’s hard work and dedication there wouldn’t be so much to write about!

The eagle-eyed amongst you will note that in the Area Dean’s foreword, he mentions that the Benefice is now suspended. This is a formal process which gives the Diocese the opportunity to consider expanding the parish boundary, particularly into Long Lawford. This proposal has been discussed at PCC and welcomed in principle, although there is no detail yet as to how this will work. The suspension of the Benefice will not delay things; the new person will simply be appointed as Priest-in-Charge and, at a later date once the arrangements are agreed, will formally become the incumbent.

ANOTHER AMAZING MAKE LUNCH SUMMER

The Make Lunch team has had another amazing summer, making their 10th summer one to remember! The team served 420 meals to 28 different families, many of whom have been coming for years – supporting each other and making friends.

The theme for the summer’s activities was “Around the World”. Sarah and a small team planned menus inspired by different continents each week. Activities followed this theme too, with African dance and Indian drumming workshops, a visit from Alpaca Pals and Rugby Library, and pizza making with On the Deck plus some homegrown activities too. The day trip to Wicksteed Park near Kettering was especially popular with children and adults enjoying not just the rides, but the chance to be together, make friends and be part of a community.

Massive thanks to the whole Make Lunch team for making it such a success.

BISHOP SOPHIE'S VISIT

Bishop Sophie had a busy morning at St Oswald’s on Sunday 12th October where she re-dedicated the reordered nave and chancel, confirmed four candidates, admitted four children to communion and presented the church with a Gold A Rocha Eco-Church award.

Exploring St Peter’s description of the church as “living stones” she encouraged the church to look to its future as a “sent people”, reaching out in mission.

REFURBISHED WORSHIP AREA IS OPEN!

We opened our new worship area on 5th September with an All Age Service.

IT'S GOLD!

We have just become the second church in this diocese and the 108th nationally to be awarded an
A Rocha Gold Eco Church Award.
Our main buildings are operating at carbon zero thanks to our heat pumps, but the external auditors also assessed us under the categories of our:

  • Worship and teaching
  • Buildings and energy
  • Land and nature
  • Community and global engagement
  • Lifestyle.

“You put us in charge of your handcrafted world.” Psalm 8:6

WE ARE CARBON ZERO!

The installation of air sourced heat pumps with computer optimisation means that St Oswald’s building is totally electric for heat and light. Our Electricity contract is for Renewable Energy only, so the building is now Carbon Zero. This is a key step in our efforts to live more sustainably as a church community.
